New legislation for credit unions

Changes to the Credit Unions Act 1979 came into force on 08 January 2012.
This is the first change to the original law in 32 years and increases the potential for all credit unions in a variety of ways, although no new powers may be adopted until the individual credit union membership approves via a General Meeting and all new powers are subject to Financial Services Authority approval as well.
