Police Credit Union operates a "common bond" that welcomes any person from the police family in England and Wales.

For the purpose of joining, the police family covers serving and retired police officers/police staff and any family member living in their households.

If circumstances change for an existing member, for example a police officer changes occupation or a family member moves out of the household, the status of "non-qualifying member" is conferred, with all other rights retained including the vote at the Annual General Meeting. This is to ensure the "common bond" requirement is maintained at the statutory level.
